UPCOMING MEETING

September 14th, 2010

Speaker: Xenia (Zane’ ya) Cord
Xenia is a quilt-maker, antique quilt dealer and a quilt historian. She is from Kokomo Indiana. Some of her many interests are kit quilts, vintage fabric, and regionalism in quilts. She is a member of the American Quilt Study Group. She is the author of numerous articles on different aspects of American antique quilts and quilt history. Her program is “It’s My Mother’s Fault - My Journey with Quilts”. Her mother was indirectly responsible for putting her where she is today, up to her ham-hocks in antique quilts, quilt research, antique quilt sales and quilt shows. Her lecture is a fairly lighthearted look at her quilt journey complete with some wonderful quilts, collectibles and stories about the people she has met. Xenia’s workshop on Wednesday is “Vintage Fabric Identification”, it will be a full day workshop in which the topic is the recognition and identification of antique fabrics as a means for identifying time period/place, origin/historic and geographic and understanding of the social and historic cultural context within which women made quilts. Handouts will be provided along with antique fabric samples explaining time period, color and other meaningful divisions. This is a hands-on workshop involving a variety of textile and media examples.
