Monthly Newsletters

In an effort to lower the cost of printing and mailing over 900 newsletters, Prairie Quilters New is now offered online. There are two main benefits to receiving the newsletter online: 1) It won't get lost in the mail, and 2) It's in color. As a PQG member, you can be notified by e-mail that the latest newsletter is available. Sign up for this free service by contacting the PQG newsletter editor. Please include your name, mailing address, and e-mail address in your message.

Viewing Newsletters

  • If you are not able to see this month's newsletter listed on the left (and you've been assured that it is now available), you probably need to clean your computer's cache of internet images. (The internet cache is where your computer stores website images so it can reload the sites quickly when you revisit them.) Instructions on how to "clean your cache" can be found here:
    http://support.lexis-nexis.com/lexiscom/record.asp?ArticleID=wg_cache
    or here:
    http://is.asu.edu/instruction/training/clearcache.html .

  • In order to view the newsletters, you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, version 5.0 or later. This program is offered free on the Adobe Reader website.

  • Each newsletter has color graphics and is typically twelve pages in length, so an issue may open slowly. Your connection speed and network traffic may also affect the time it takes to open a newsletter file. Please be patient, though! It'll be worth it.

  • Members' addresses and phone numbers have been removed from the online version of the Guild's newsletter in order to preserve our members' privacy. If you are a Guild member and need to know the phone number or address of a fellow member mentioned in the newsletter, please consult your Membership Directory or contact the membership chairperson.

  • The online archive to the left stores twelve months of PQG newsletters, the most recent at the top of the list. If you need a newsletter older than this, please visit the Guild Library during regular monthly meetings.

Printing Newsletters

Most of our newsletters contain at least one quilt block pattern. In order to print out the templates accurately, please follow the directions below:

  1. Open the file in Acrobat Reader
  2. Select File > Print... to open the Print dialog box.
  3. Choose "Acrobat Reader" from the section header drop-down menu.
  4. In version 5 of Acrobat Reader: Uncheck the "Shrink Oversized Pages to Paper Size" option (which is checked by default), and make sure the "Enlarge Small Pages to Paper Size" is unchecked (as it is by default) while you're at it.
In versions 6 & 7 of Acrobat Reader: The "Paper Scaling" dialogue box should be "None" (not "Fit to Paper" nor "Shrink Large Sizes").
  5. Click on the Print button at the bottom of the dialog box.

2004-05 Challenge

The challenge project has been concluded!! The entries were displayed at the 2005 Wichita Garden Show, then at the March 2005 PQG meeting. Winners from each category listed below have been chosen by the membership and will be displayed below soon. The rules by which the challenge was issued are below.

The rules were very similar to previous challenges:

  1. Use all three fabrics in a recognizable amount.
  2. Dyeing and embellishing is legal, but not required.
  3. Must be quilted, machine or by hand.
  4. Permanently label the quilt with at least the quilts name and your name.
  5. To be entered in the miniature category the piece must fit inside of a 14" square.
  6. You may add as many other materials as you like.
  7. Due to space limits at the Wichita Garden Show maximum size is a perimeter measurement of 144" (if square that is 36 x36).
  8. Have fun; if it aint fun, do something else with the fabric! (Make a draft stopper for the front door I don't care)

August 2006 Retreat

The retreat participants accomplished a lot! Please visit the Retreat Show 'n Share page to view the projects they worked on.

Wichita Garden Show

The theme for the 2005 Wichita Garden Show was "Spring Rhythm & Blues," which we adapted as our own theme for the 2005 Challenge Project. Entries for the PQG Challenge were shown first at the Garden Show; show attendees voted for their favorite entry, and the winners are listed below. Congratualtions to them!
